Suceava Fortress is a medieval fortress located at the eastern extremity of Suceava city which lies in northeastern Romania.
It was part of the fortification system built in Moldova in the late fourteenth century, in response to the Ottoman invasions.
The city witnessed numerous fights during the glory years of the ruler Stephen the Great.
The medieval fortification system consisted of fortified settlements (princely courts, monasteries with high walls and fortresses of strategic importance) for defense, fortified with stone or earth walls with deep ditches. Within this site, there are halls with various destinations: prison, steam bath, basement and chapel. The interiors were partially restored so as to account for the court life at times when it served as temporary home to Moldova's rulers.
Here lived the country princes and boyars in addition to high rank representatives medieval Moldovan state administration.
